Painting with fonts

Liveart asked me recently about this picture and "challenged" me to create a tutorial.

The posted example was created with Processing software, then a cast shadow treatment with Filter Forge. The reason I used processing is that, I didn't know that you can change the value of some parameters more than the limit. Some are limited to 100, but you can go after this value.

Example here : TB size : 200.

And it's only for that reason that I used Processing.

Here is now a SA picture with a basic paint preset.

And you can change many parameters in the editor mode of the paint synthesizer.

Change the font, size, color mode, etc...

So if I add a cast shadow effect :

you can find comments on how to use a font in SA in some of my pictures

Sure that the result depends on the source. But you can also change the source with other tonalities

Here the font I used.

One thing to know, if you download a font, and want use it in SA, you have to exit the program and run it again, so that the font is downloaded.

  • Thanks for posting these examples along with presets for people to try out. To be honest, it had not occurred to me that font brushes could be used for more generic styles of painting like splatter brushes until Bernard first started playing around with it. I always love it when users come up with new uses for old features.

I'm open to beefing up the features associated with text brushes if people come across things they would like to see added when using them in these new ways.
