Here's a PASeq preset that shows an approach to generate a source image modulated step gradient effect recently discussed. The first MSg action step generates the vertical step gradienet. the second displacement ip op action step displaces the gradient based on the contents of the source image. The 3rd MSG action step is a resolution independent gradient lighting effect.

Here's a variation on this effect, again as a PASeq preset. The step gradient is random hue colorized, the displacement is done a different way using interactive warp, and the gradient processing is done a different way using the Gradient Lighting ip op.
