multi-scale turing patterns

I was recently impressed with "multiscale turing patterns", particulary found in the works of Jonathan McCabe.

It might be that this give john a stimulus to enhance the MSG with new processors in this direction...

  • Very cool!

You can do reaction-diffusion via self feedback now using MSG (or other Studio Artist effects). You setup a feedback loop where you process the canvas as the source for the process. And then take that processed canvas and use it as the new source. Usually running something in loop action. And reaction-diffsion patterning magically appears when you do that.

You need to get the multi-spatial octave part of it going properly.

We have lots of procedural texture generators that generate multi-octave fractal turbulence.

But setting it up for a reaction-diffusion feedback process is a little bit different.

I'll leave that thought experiment for the reader to think through (for now).

We also have some cellular automata MSG processors.

So you could probably build a PASeq that you ran in loop action to generate something like this already (maybe). That would be a fun exercise to go through.

But perhaps we need a new specific multi-scale turing pattern MSG processor. I'll take a look at it. Could probably knock one off pretty quickly. So again thanks, very cool suggestion for a new MSG feature.
