You can open SVG files in version 4 (SVG is a vector file format). The issue with eps is that i would need to implement a complete postscript interpreter. It's easy to open an eps file in Preview and then export it as an image format that studio artist can open, so that would be the workflow to get something from illustrator in to work with the vectorizer.
