I'm trying some experiments to work out some new ways to use movie source brushes and photo mosaic ideas in different contexts. I used the paint synthesizer with a video pan movie source brush set to a random frame index. The photo mosaic was generated using an adaptive block scan path start generator and a new parameter option in version 4 that when turned on gives a better rendition of the source by splitting the blocks in an adaptive way to better represent the source image. the region fill as brush pen mode was used. When using source movie brushes with this pen mode you want to use a source alpha brush type and set the Brush Option control in the region as brush mode control panel to 'alpha only'. You also want to turn the pathstart regionize control in that control panel on when using any of the path start regionize generators. I usually use a brush load paint fill setup fill from option. I use an image processing brush load with the source set to the brush and a paint color mean shift algorithm. this passes through the movie brush images and colorizes them to try and match the source in the local region being generated and filled. Setting this all up can get a little complicated so it's often best to start with an existing photo mosaic movie brush paint preset and just change the movie brush to your own custom one. I'm also going to add a new paint synth macro edit to do the configuration edits for this kind of movie brush automatically to make it easier for people to try out this new approach to building photo mosaics in the paint synthesizer. After building the photo mosaic image i used several different interactive warp operations and some ip ops to build the final image.
