Here's a tip about abstraction. If you are using Path End Blanking inhibition to speed up painting, the effect tends to damp out any stylistic path effects you may be using (the small paths at the end of the paint process will tend to reproduce the original image). An alternative approach to speed up drawing it to inhibit Path Starts to skip blanking. This way you get a full path length drawn for each stroke, leading to a more abstracted image that utilizes whatever path abstraction technique you are working with.
