DualMode Paint preset. I'm experimenting with using a new approach using a long dualmode Timing setting and a SmartBlur IpOp Dual Op setting in conjunction with a path start regionize paint preset using size indexing. So the larger already painted region sizes are recursively smeared with the Smart Blur ip op as progressively smaller region sizes are laid down over time.

  • the concept sounds very interesting.

  • I've been exploring this approach some more. It's a very interesting alternative approach to building a multi-step PASeq to encode an iterative 'paint - image process - paint - image process - paint , etc' paint strategy. Nice since you can encode all of that in a single dualmode paint step. Using dualmode paint with path start regionize paint presets is something new for me.

Just goes to show, there's always something new to explore in Studio Artist.

  • Yes, the only limitation is that the time cycle is fixed. So if you want the number of strokes completed between blur operations to vary you have to use some work arounds. It might be an interesting addition to the program to have the dual mode time cycle be variable. Maybe Bus 1 would be modulator to start with.

  • It would need to be a time based modulator, as opposed to a spatial modulator, if it was modulating the Timing.

I pushed the Timing to a higher value than you can get with the slider at max setting by typing in a higher value.

  • Would it really need to be a time based modulator. All the program needs is a value. Does it matter how that value is derived?

Anyway the concept is two fold. one that would allow the user to create a schedule for the timing value of the dual mode preset. This could be a matrix, or any number of the functions that currently mod the TG in the MSG.  The second might incorporate some spatial awareness so that as the canvas filled up the timing would become either shorter or longer perhaps as a percentage of the canvas that was blank?
