My whole approach to graffiti imagery is to view it as a flat textural element. I go to great lengths to try and capture the images as flat texture fields. Or to capture the inherent energy of the design elements at a macroscopic level. So capturing sub elements of the design that contain flow or energy are more important than a pull back photo of the entire finished graffiti piece, which i usually try to avoid. And the more textural grit the better.

After capturing the individual digital photos, i then run through them cropping to get maximum flatness of the texture field in the cropped image. And usually some image compressor processing to punch up the contrast.
