Painting of a chaotic attractor. I'm using a MSG path start generator. The MSG preset generators the attractor, and the individual attractor paints are used as different path start points for the paint synthesizer. I'm using a new path shape path load option that draws a spline from the previous path start point to the current path start point.

  • I have no idea what you just said but I love the piece :)
  • You can think of a chaotic attractor image as a visualization of a chaotic process. For some more information on chaotic attractors and chaos theory check out this link or this one. There are a number of different MSG processors that generate visualizations of chaotic attractors.

The Studio Artist paint synthesizer has a path start generator options called MSG Scan Generator. This path start generator uses the current MSG preset to generate path start points for painting. There are a number of different MSG processors that can be used as a path start generator. All of the ones that generate chaotic attractors can generate path start points in a paint synthesizer preset. The first MSG processor in the current MSG preset that can generate scan points is used for the MSG Scan Generator if you have turned on that option in the paint synthesizer.

So, in the image above i first constructed a MSG preset that generates a lorenz chaotic attractor. I then built a paint synthesizer preset that used that MSG preset as a MSG Scan Generator for auto painting.

I used a new path shape option in v4 to generate the spline paths between the path start points on the attractor. It's a new path load option in v4 called 'Last Path Start Spline to'.

What's nice about using the paint synthesizer to paint a chaotic attractor is that you have full access to all of the various features of the paint synthesizer for controlling the appearance and behavior of the paint used to draw in the chaotic attractor.
