A totally different approach to wavy strokes using the vectorizer.

  • a brief but interesting article:

  • This is nice, John. Thanks
  • Regarding the article, you can use the path menu commands to build a bezier edge map and then expand that to fill in the rest of the canvas if you want to generate that kind of patterning. Similarly modulating the brush size for smaller at the edges and larger in the background areas.
  • Excellent! Could you post the preset?
  • The effect is pretty simple. It is using a 4.03 feature for the local gradient coloring associated with the vector stroke regions. We hope to get the 4.03 update to everyone in a few days.

There's 2 steps involved in making this. I started with the Line Screen Regionize ip op with the settings below.

This ip op effect generates an effect composed of flat color regions with hard edges. So i can use the Vectorizer's Flat Input Technique to convert the flat color hard edged raster regions into vector regions with anti-aliased edges. The gradient lighting going on in the vector regions is also taking place with a new Vectorizer setting option. Here's how i setup the Vectorizer.

The Vector Fill Option parameter set to Linear Gradient is the new 4.03 feature i mentioned. The local region gradient lighting is coming from that parameter option.
  • Very nice!
