Hawaii Hurricane and Synthetik Software Operations

Some of you who read the weather news may have noticed that Hawaii is getting ready to be double (or triple) tag teamed by successive hurricanes in the next few days. It appears based on the most recent weather projections that it's probably not going to be too big of a deal for us. But it's quite possible that we will lose electric power and or internet connectivity from time to time over the next few days.

This will not affect online sales at all, unless you are placing an upgrade order. Those need to be manually processed by us after you initially place your upgrade order online. So if you order an upgrade in the next few days, it might take a little big longer than usual to get your actual download link for your upgrade software purchase.

Normal first time customer purchases of Studio Artist will happen just fine, immediate access to the download link as soon as the order is completed via our online store. All of our internet servers are located in other parts of the world, not in Hawaii. So our synthetik.com site and the users forum here and Studio Artist News blog will all work fine as they normally do.

And if you submit a technical support help ticket or question, or otherwise communicate with us via email in the next few days, it's possible there may be some delay in our normally pretty quick response to technical support questions or other issues customers present to us.

Again, i don't expect any major problems from these tropical storms headed our way, but i did want to inform our customer base about it, so if we seem to be out of contact or hard to reach for the next few days, it's just because we're all riding out these incoming tropical storms bearing down on Hawaii.

  • John your dedication service and concern for your customers is beyond admirable. Stay safe- keep your family safe and we will all be happy to hear from you on the other side of this event.

    • Yes Michael, you're right :

Good luck and take care of you and your family, John !

  • Thank you all for your best wishes!

We get NOAA updates every 5 hours or so on the current prediction modeling of the hurricanes. And the very latest one is looking better than the previous one. So hopefully this will all be no big deal (at least where we are) other than a lot of rain at some point, and the power and internet will definitely go out at some point, or several points. And you hope when that does happen that it's out for an hour or 2 as opposed to for several days. That's why i put this message up, in case the later were to come true.

But you have to take these things seriously here. I know of people who were in the Iniki hurricane on Kauai (the last really bad hurricane here), and they have some fascinating stores of watching a 2 by 4 piece of wood fly through a solid wooden wall into the room they were all huddled in, and then embed itself into the opposite wall on the other side of the room. Fortunately, none of them were standing up when this happened. Or people in $400 dollar a night fancy hotel rooms who ended up huddled in the bathroom in the bathtub under a mattress because all the glass windows blew out in their hotel room at some point.

Now i don't expect anything like this for us (based on current predictions), just a lot of rain, some wind, and power and internet outages.

When i got up this morning, i did decide that if this was going to be my last day on earth (just kidding) i would spend it drinking a good cappuccino. So I headed out into the light rain to grab one. And next door to the coffee place is a tourist bike shop. Where a group of really soaking wet tourists were all coming in on bikes from having ridden bikes down the volcano during the middle of a hurricane watch and flash flood warning. I found this kind of amusing and tragic at the same time. Maybe the bike ride was fun for them (didn't look like it). And i was very aware that  in other flash flood warning situations around here i have heard of a solid wall of water pouring down the particular back country mountain road they were set loose on this morning, washing away everything in it's path. Flash foods being the other thing you need to be very concerned about if it's ever pouring serious rain here in Hawaii (or any place with high mountains).

  • o what a nightmare in my midday nap: I dreamed how john's baby aka source-code was attacked by japanese kamikaze-pilots in a hurricane. the soundtrack of the scene was iluminated and implored by belgian flak-boys, but then thousands of hullagirls in a long, long chain brave the storm and pass the "baby" in his chest to a waiting old russian nuke sub. can't remember whether it's color was yellow...

hope iselle and julio will be clement

The scene here this morning. As automatically created using gallery show on a mac book. Random mutating vectorizer technique and water was presets for start cycle processing, which only seemed appropriate.

The power went off her eseveral hours before it even arrived last night and we started laughing, because it was totally quiet with no wind or rain when that happened. I actually do have power right now, but apparently most people where i am do not, so we will see how the day progresses. So far, so good.

Studio Artist is in Italy!

I was crawling the streets of Matera, Italy today and may have discovered where SA is hiding!  (see attached photo). Not meaning to make light of this great, sad mystery. But I just couldn't resist as I try to make sense of what's happening. Losing my connection to SA, Synthetik and John has been a great sadness... and if real, ends a monumental era in my creative life. love,~Victor
