  • Pano, the easiest way will be to send your vectorized canvas to the source. From there you have several options.

you can work with the path start blanking options, or the path end options to constrain the brush to a color area. You might try creating a preset using the pen mode region fill as brush.

If you truly need to keep your source image unchanged, you might generate paths from canvas edges after running your vectorizer preset, then use the expand complete path command. After which you could use the paint paths commands to fill the areas.

I am attaching a few presets that you might try, then examine for modding to your liking

    • Thank you!

  • You can set the selection buffer to your vectorized output. So the selection buffer gets set to flat colored regions.

You can then turn on the Local Region Path Stop parameter in the Path End control panel. This will stop path generation when a path leaves the flat colored region specified in the selection buffer.

There is also a Local Region option in the Nib Masking control in the Paint Fill Apply control panel you can turn on. This will give you a hard masking clip if the paint tries to leave the local region it started in.

You can also use the selection buffer to define path start regionization painting. Here's a short news article that discusses this. Here's a tip that discusses path start regionization in more detail.

    • Here are some effects blog articles that discuss Path Start Regionization.

    • thanks!

      • If you need more info on programming path start regionization paint preset let me know. There is a specific path start generator called Selection as Regions - All Levels. This takes each flat color region in the selection buffer and generates a path start region from them. So this is the mechanism that is used to take the vectorizer flat color regions in the selection buffer and then repaint them.

        • I got that, thank you.

What I have not figured out yet how to tell paint synth not to use the space between colored regions.

          Any suggestions?

          • The first thing to do is to not generate black region outlines from the vectorizer, make the region outlines the normal region interior coloring. Otherwise, the lines will be perceived as thin regions by the path start regionize code. You can always run the vectorizer preset again after painting so that it only draws the region boundaries in black with empty interiors if you want them outlined with thin black vector paint.

            ........

As far as masking paint based on individual paint start regionization shapes, there are several different options.

You can mask out the paint in Path End, Path Application, and Paint Fill Apply control panel with appropriate settings.

The path start regionize code first generates a set of regions. In this case, based on the concents of the current selection buffer. But then the selection buffer gets setup as the paint synthesizer paints each individual region, so that that region is selected with the rest of the selection buffer unselected. So you can use any Path End, Path Application, or Paint Fill Apply paint restriction based on the selection.

In Path End, that would be the Select Region Path Stop parameter.

In Path Application, that would be the Current Selection option for the Probability parameter.

In Paint Fill Apply, that would be the if Region option for the Nib Masking parameter.

Path End and Path Application control panels affect the path. So you will still potentially get overpainting associated with a paint nib painting close to the boundary where the path would be stopped (since the path is at the center of a paint nib when it is painted.

The Nib Masking in the Paint Fill Apply control panel is a hard mask of the individual paint nibs.

Is anybody making a copy of all the material in the Tutorials Forum

Since the Forum is going away in June, has anyone started to make a copy of all the stuff in the Tutorials forum?I've made copies of some of the tutorial material on the main site, but haven't looked at the Tutorial Forum yet.I'm going to continue copying as much as I can for my own personal use anyway, but if anyone else is doing it, or has already started doing it, please let me know.Maybe we can co-ordinate our efforts. ps can't ..... believe John, would let this happen without so much as a…

Studio Artist is in Italy!

I was crawling the streets of Matera, Italy today and may have discovered where SA is hiding!  (see attached photo). Not meaning to make light of this great, sad mystery. But I just couldn't resist as I try to make sense of what's happening. Losing my connection to SA, Synthetik and John has been a great sadness... and if real, ends a monumental era in my creative life. love,~Victor
