Hi John

I have no idea what you are going through. However the impact you have made not to continue with the user forum and your desire keep it as a permanent feature as promised in the past is a big shock. It also betrays the faith and love we have shown in you and Studio Artist.

Bluntly spoken, it sucks. That you have chosen to follow this direction in silence, allowing no compassion or understanding on our part is a betrayal of the deepest level.

What is going on? This is not the John Dalton I have known all these years.

I regret writing such an angry response. However you have gone too long and too far on your path of silence.

I wish you well and hope u and your family are or will be in good health.

Sincerely,

Paul Perlow

  • I didn't see any notification that the User Forum is closing. I only got that one warning notice, as did at least one other person. Have you seen something Paul?

I am frustrated in Johns lack of response to any of the posts since last July. I would have hoped that, if he is running a real business, he would at least put someone else in charge, while he took a leave of absence.

Is SA still under development? is the forum going to fold? Is SA itself, going to fold?

The longer John keeps silent, speculation about what is going on, is going only going to continue to grow.

  • Tony I rec ieved this notice earlier today....

    Aloha Studio Artist Ning User,

We regret to inform you that we will no longer be hosting the User's Forum on Ning.  We will, of course, continue to support your questions about Studio Artist via our support tab on our website.

Please download or take screenshots of any important images or posts that you would like before June 1, 2024.  After June 1, 2024 the data will no longer be available.

If you have any questions please email us at contact@synthetik.com.

    Aloha,

    The Team at Synthetik

  • There is a private forum on Facebook that I guess we'll all migrate to?

    • That's a good suggestion Ben. Thanks. Unfortunately it will never be able to replace the sense of gratefulness and cameraderie I have felt towards everyone here. John's genius brought so many digital nomads together, not only through the software, but for his uncanny ability to give endlessly  and help us all. I am filled with remorse, loss and anger that it is coming to an end.  John, I assume you are reading this as well. This must be a momentous time in your life. You have meant so much to me. Your gifts and kindness helped give meaning to my life and helped me through serious dark nights of the soul. While I do feel angry at your decision and the way you have "ended" this experience, I will always feel the thankful to you. You are a shining star.

    • I am traveling for the next two weeks... but when I return, I'd like to address this question of FB group or some other stop-gap measure to keep some vestige of a SA community fabric intact. I had, back a few years ago, before the slide of the forum, even considered suggesting an occasional Studio Artist Zoom meeting, complete with screen sharing to brainstorm or address specific Studio Artist fun, questions and issues.

      • ... it won't be a miracle... but it might keep a few things afloat after this forum vanishes. ~victor

  • I would suggest a sub on Reddit, rather than FB, which some choose to avoid these days.

Sorry to learn this forum is shutting down; it has been useful for me from time to time.

Thanks to everyone who contributed answers to my questions over the past few years.

  • I feel like the "open letter" to John is too harsh. He hasn't posted here since the day of the fire on Maui, and my intuition is that besides how terrible that event was, John was probably personally affected by it in some awful way. I don't know for sure, that's just my feeling. I don't feel "betrayed" on the "deepest level". I feel like he has probably been going through some extremely difficult life changes.

It is sad that this forum is going away, I will miss it, I have looked at it almost every day for years to see what's new. I hope Synthetik itself will continue, I have used Studio Artist since the year 2002 I think (?been a long time haha, Version 2) and it is my absolute favorite art software, and it has progressed in so many amazing ways. In preparation for whatever changes happen to this forum and possibly the other SA resources on other sites, I have been making a personal archive of all the tutorials and tips that I can find, wherever, here and on the Synthetik site, even ones I am not particularly interested in, because Studio Artist is so deep, and I always find something to learn about SA, even from stuff that I at first thought didn't interest me that much. By saving all those pages, I have learned some cool stuff, just in the last day, about features that had stumped me for quite a while. I recommend everyone go look at all the resources on the Synthetik site and save them to your computer as complete webpages.

My hope is for the best for John and his loved ones, and for Synthetik. Hopefully we still get a Version 6 someday, but if we don't, I still love SA and will use it until my computers konk out.

    • Thank you Thor. Such mysterious times.

    • I appreciate your thoughtful and sensitive message. I wondered before I posted my messages whether it was too harsh. However I feel honest in my evaluation of the situation which has included my love and appreciation for John, his brilliance as well as my anger and frustration about how the situation was handled. Great lights cast equally giant shadows. I feel we owe it to ourselves to look at the truths that are inherent in life's experiences. I too am a long time user of SA and have been equally blessed by John's brilliance, kindness and friendship through the years. The intent of my messages was not to hurt anyone, even though in facing a Truth one often can do so.

Your archive is a great idea. Perhaps setting it up for open access to all users would be a great gift. Or even contacting Ning about that. I know a software that may be able to archive the site in its entirerty. I will look into that.

Is anybody making a copy of all the material in the Tutorials Forum

Since the Forum is going away in June, has anyone started to make a copy of all the stuff in the Tutorials forum?I've made copies of some of the tutorial material on the main site, but haven't looked at the Tutorial Forum yet.I'm going to continue copying as much as I can for my own personal use anyway, but if anyone else is doing it, or has already started doing it, please let me know.Maybe we can co-ordinate our efforts. ps can't ..... believe John, would let this happen without so much as a…

Studio Artist is in Italy!

I was crawling the streets of Matera, Italy today and may have discovered where SA is hiding!  (see attached photo). Not meaning to make light of this great, sad mystery. But I just couldn't resist as I try to make sense of what's happening. Losing my connection to SA, Synthetik and John has been a great sadness... and if real, ends a monumental era in my creative life. love,~Victor
