I've started to have some friendly conversations with people about how to talk about and eventually market the art I've been making as commercial decorative fine art or decor.

I keep coming up against two questions that I'm doing my best to answer:

  1. So, it's basically a filter?
  2. How is it AI?

How do you answer these questions without long-winded philosophical discussions about "What is art?" and "What is artificial intelligence?"

I'm looking for "shortcuts" that get past vague objections, and instead move the conversation back to the art, and the creative process of applying the tool.

"So, it's basically a filter?"

The way I'm semi-successfully answering this question is with some version of, "it's more like a series of a variety of filters that perform all kinds of different operations. The artist has much more control over what kind of operations are performed and how." (not verbatim, usually much more long winded!)

My sense is that this answer leaves the listener feeling that it's still just basically a "meta filter" tuned by an artist.

"How is it AI?"

I usually start by saying it has an embedded model of the human visual cortex, mostly just because it sounds cool. It's usually downhill from there, as I think the listener is hoping for a fantastical answer, and mine becomes more tedious.

I realize that these topics are inherently ambiguous, but I'm hoping to conjure straightforward vocabulary that gets past skepticism or misconception, and on to the art. I feel like I need to understand it better as well.

How do you all talk about these aspects of creating art with Studio Artist?
