I have the demo of Studio Artist. And, before going further, I must say it is an amazing program. I’m surprised it doesn’t have a higher profile. Maybe that’s because it’s so sophisticated.

Also, I’m a musician, so I know about John Dalton, and OSC and MIDI and all that. Finally, I’m a huge Hawaii-phile. So, Synthetik already has my high respect. They seem very engaged with a great community of artists.

I’m writing because I’m still on the fence about Studio Artist. I am SOOOOOO close to pulling the trigger at the current sale price.

That said, I’m wondering if SA is really what I need. I am transitioning out of dotcom life to make art and music. I’m specifically interested in the middle ground between apps that are boring painting filters, and full on AI masterpieces. I am currently using the Glaze app on iOS to create "painterly" works that don't look like cheesy filters. I don't consider my work sophisticate, but I'm satisfied with it, and I get good feedback on it.

My goal is to actually create pop commercial art, largely around beloved places (including Hawaii!) But this means basically taking my own source photography and creating paintings that are still recognizable, but are generative, and not just cheesy filters. I like the idea of adjusting my photos in a photo app to accentuate certain features that are then picked up generative painting in a click or two. I do intend to create my own more abstract pieces, but I am really trying to create “pop” art for a less sophisticated audience and sell it. While I'm inspired by the brilliant fine art I see here on the forums, the marketer in me wants to create less sophisticated pieces for less sophisticated audiences. Here is my insta for some examples of what I've made so far. (I have better pieces on the way that I haven't posted yet.)

I’ve also been checking out a ton of “AI painting” web sites that basically charge for high-res images based on a library of styles. Deep Art Effects and Ostagram have caught my eye. I must say that some of the output on these sites look good to me, for my intended purposes also. I like the simplicity of picking a preset, clicking a button, and still getting an image that looks “worked on” and again, not just a cheesy filter.

I’ve read that imminent 5.5  has more AI built-in. I’m wondering how easily accessible it will be? My best results with the SA demo have from from creating my own presets, but I’m not sure if I want that…part of me wants to pick a style, click a button,  and go.

What are you thoughts on this, especially with regards to 5.5?

I would love guidance on whether or not to grab SA while I can before the 5.5 release or determine if I'd be satisfied with the more stylized output from the other options I mentioned.

I must reiterate that Studio Artist is SO impressive. It truly seems like the best-in-class for what it is, and the pedigree of the dev team is impeccable. I'm just wondering if maybe something simpler would be better suited for me. Thank you, and kudos on all the wonderful art that you all have been creating. It's truly inspiring and amazing.

After reading John’s blog, listening to some of his music, discovering he lives on Maui (I provided some of my Hana paintings as samples of my work), and reading a few posts on the timing of the OSC acquisition, ~I pulled the trigger!~

How could I ~not- buy it?! Yes, weirdest thought process ever, but it was an affinity purchase. Looking forward to digging in!

Looking forward to getting into this amazing software.
