I'm using the vectorizer to automatically generate bezier regions that are then filled in using the paint synthesizer configured to paint with a MSG brush load. So the MSG preset encapsulated in the paint synthesizer preset draws in each vector region generated by the vectorizer.

  • Great effect ! I have so many too learn !
  • You can also use this approach to generate simpler gradient fills for the vector regions if you want to. There's a posterous blog post on this coming up later in the month. I'll try to get some more tutorial info on it up as well.

You can use the paint synthesizer to fill in vectorizer regions in several different ways. You can set the selection buffer to the vectorizer output, and then use the path start Generator option called Selection as Regions - All Levels along with the Path Start Regionize Path Type with the Outline1 option for the Region Pattern Spacing parameter. Outline1 works better than Outline for this kind of thing. You use it with Region Fill as Brush pen mode, so you fill each region as a region fill shape rather than draw a paint path around the region outline.

The approach taken for the image above is differnt, and uses the vectorizer to generate bezier paths, and then you run Path : paint Paths : Full Layer to paint in the bezier path vector regions.

The paint synthesizer is so flexible there are millions of different ways to fill in the bezier regions. Once you start using MSG presets via MSG Brush Loading things get even more flexible and endless. This approach is getting into the old ArtMapper territory from the old MSG Evolver application.
  • Thanks !
  • Wild.. both the image and the possibilities of the process.
  • Yes, the possibilities of the process are endless. You can also use temporal generators (TG) to modulate the MSG presets being used for the region fills.

how do you set the selection buffer to vectorizer output??
  • (Use) Path Start Regionize Path Type with the Outline1 option for the Region Pattern Spacing parameter.

in the Paint Synth? I have the editor to the path start panel and have selected the generator Selection as regions- full, but there are not options for path start regionize path type - and the only place I find outline 1 is in the vectorizer drawing panel-- I must be missing something here.
  • uses the vectorizer to generate bezier paths

    directly? if so how.

or did you generate the vector image as an outline then converted nonwhite canvas to paths?
  • To set the selection buffer to the vectorizer output, you can either use the vectorizer composite option called Replace Region Selection, or you can run it into the canvas and then use the canvas : selection : Set to : canvas menu command.

Here's what i was referring to for the Path Shape controls:

To get the vectorizer to generate bezier paths, you turn on the path : path layer record options : vectorizer menu flag. Remember to erase the path layer before running the vectorizer with this option or the paths will build up over time.
