Changing background image textures and movie brushes

I seem to have a recurring problem with changing out background image textures and background movie brushes as well as getting source movies to be recognized as the brush type in the brush source dialogue box I can see the dimensions change but the movie doesn't become interactive with the brush--the brush retains the properties of the previous brush type (i.e. text brush, generative brush, computational brush, etc) Is this an issue that anyone else has encountered?

Ah ha! I think I figured out the source of my troubles. I didn't adjust the brush type settings.

There's a difference between the background texture and the brush source. So just because you setup an image background texture, that's not going to change anything associated with the source brush. You'd have to program the paint synthesizer to use the image background texture in some way. The image background texture is different than the image source brush. If you want to change the brush type at a fundamental level you should use an image source brush instead.
