Custom Preset Documentation

I moved this discussion to a new forum post since 'On Artistic Series" is starting to bet crowded and the response really concerns a different topic than most of the discussion in that forum discussion. Suchin Said: I'd just like to have a trail of breadcrumbs so I can find my way to the favorite oak tree or whatever. I've resorted to the decidedly low tech stack of index cards. The little boxes of faves are way too few to keep track of the faves. In addition I want to know what painting used which ones so I can find out what the effect looked like. I always think I'll remember, and I never do. We expanded the whole favorites concept in v4, so they are much more useful for personal organization. You can have as many different favorites categories as you wish, they can hold as many or as few presets as you want, and you can mix and match different preset types within single favorites categories. Another low tech solution i've seen several people do is keeping collections of screen shots as their breadcrumb trail. Kind of like your index cards, but the digital jpg version of that. Their screenshots show the preset or parameter combinations they used along with an image example. The custom html preset help access i mentioned in a different forum post we provide in v4 is another way to build your digital breadcrumb trail. Instead of index cards, you would build html help or documentation pages for presets you use. these could include text descriptions of what it does or you like about it, an example of what the output looks like, and an embedded hot link that when pressed loads the preset. You need to use gif images in your html files right now, i know that sucks and jpg would be better, but it's a limitation right now. And you need the html page to be in our v4 help browser to use the hot link to load the preset, as opposed to viewing the html page in any old browser. And you need to understand how to use a html editor to build your custom preset help page. Is this a big limitation for people or not? I was kind of assuming you were comfortable with this but now i'm wondering if i'm assuming too much here. I could provide a way to circumvent that part of the process if it's going to be a big stumbler for people, i just hate to duplicate functionality in studio artist that other programs are specifically designed to do.

  • Well, if you provided a sample or a tut, maybe. I can do some html but don't know how extensive a use you're talking about.

That said, one of the reasons I do like the 3x5 cards or even a binder with info printed out is that I don't have to get off the screen I'm on to use it.

But then, I don't quite visualize what you're saying here.
