I've read the manual regarding max strokes so I understand it is more about the upper bounds.
Here's my problem: a 1000:1 difference in max strokes appears to have negligible impact on the density of strokes. On one side is max strokes of 40 and the other side is max strokes of 40000.
My scan repeat value is 1.
The side with max strokes of 40 just doesn't look like there's only 40 strokes in the whole canvas. Subsequently I got essentially the same result with max strokes of 10, for a 4000:1 ratio.
Is there some other parameter that evenly thins down the density of brush strokes?
I've tried blanking and various pathEnd parameters but they tend not to result in an even thinning across the canvas. I was hopeful that "use % indexes" would do the trick but it seems to result in the brush strokes stopping at some % of the way, leaving the 100 - X% portion of the canvas unpainted.

If you want to post the paint preset then i can take a look at what you are actually running, and then comment on it. Hard to say much without understanding that.
If your path start generator is something normal like smooth random, then Max Stroke set to 40 means that you will only have 40 paths generated when you press the action button. And a Max Stroke setting of 40000 means that you will paint 40000 generated paths.
My guess is that you are running one of the special case Generator options? Where Max Stroke is either ignored or interpreted differently. Like one of the 'Scan' options maybe?
Yes, a special case generator. So max strokes doesn't apply then? That's good to know.
Thank you!
