  • Yes, i think you can create a wide variety of different oil paint effects in Studio Artist. Including the raised textured surface, and/or raised brush strokes associated with bristles in the brush.

So here's a sampling of Studio Artist generated paintings on the user forum tag marked with oil.

Are there any in there that resonate with you for what you are looking for in a digital oil paint.  I can then point you at how it was generated if it's one we posted.

I'll try and put together a series of short tutorials that run through paint synthesizer features that are useful for this kind of paint effect. There are 2 different Brush Load Types (Lighting effects, and Gradient Generator) that can be used to directly generate the appearance of an oil painted surface.  You could also build MSG presets for use in a MSG Brush Load that could run gradient and gradient lighting processing effects.

There are also different approaches you can take in the Paint Brush Setup and Paint Brush Apply control panels to dial in an appropriate smear or wetness to the digital paint.

You can also generate surface lighting effects after the fact, as a post-processing stage.  Check out the Gradient Lighting and the Gradient Multi-Lighting Ip Op effects.
