I'm running OSX Yosemite 10.10.1 (14B25) and there seems to be a mild issue using the B key to resize the paint classic brush.
Every time I use the B key to resize the paint brush the brush seems to simply stop working.
I screen captured the issue so here's the link for viewing that:

I just tried using the b key here and on yosemite and it worked fine for me, so i'm wondering if it's the particular paint preset you were working with. Could you start a help ticket on what you ran into and then tech suport will interact with you there to try and figure it out.
