Movie files becoming larger than original

SA v4 beta When I do an PASeq on a movie file it goes to about 3 times the original size file wise. Like a 7 minute clip turns into about a 21 minute clip. How to get the frame rate and length of time to be the same as original file? Also I try to get videos up here but there seems to be a conversion problem. Any ideas on that? thanks in advance Laurence

  • If you setup movie file processing to pass through the source frame timing, then you should get the same number of frames as your original movie file with the same frame timing. You do this by setting the process frame timing movie preference option to be source movie. If you set it to be moviecodec fps then the fps (frames per second) setting in the file : movie codec settings menu dialog will be used to retime the output frames.

There are other movie preference settings that can be used to skip or repeat source frame and to repeat output frames (src skip, src repeat, out repeat). You want all of those set to 0, since skipping or repeating frames will change the number of frames in the output processed movie file.

The actual file size of the processed movie file may be dramatically different than the file size of your source movie file, depending on which output compression codec you use. Some codecs like animation generate uncompressed output, so the output movie file size will be very large when using this kind of codec.

As far as uploading movie files to the user form. I use quicktime player to recompress a movie using the h264 codec, and then upload that file. I usually render out my processed movies from Studio Artist using the animation codec at millions of colors so i get uncompressed output for my processed output.
