Thought I had a handle on this but I'm not getting consistent results so I figured I'd ask around on the forum. I've created a simple three step PASeq with a fixed color IO, a paint synthesizer preset based off of the active liquid 3 preset (from the default>liquids category) and a geodesic growth IO. I'm achieving the look that I want in frame, however as the PASeq animates, the image on the canvas re-draws the first frame form the source movie on every frame rather than rendering a frame update as the movie progresses. In this particular instance, I notice that the source movie does not progress when I hit the animate button. It does update when I step through frame by frame using the transport controls. What controls the source image update when a PASeq animates?

  • Check your file : source settings : movie loop action advance menu flag. You want that to be turned on in version 4 when using the animate button if you want the source movie to advance as the PASeq loops.
    • Just for clarity's sake, when you say loop, you're talking about the PASeq finishing processing a frame and moving onto the next one, correct?
      • Yes.
        • john I am having the same problem, the frame does not advance, just keeps processing the same frame. I checked my file setting and the movie loop action advance is turn on...
          so frustrating.

          • Here's the menu flag you want to have turned on if you are working with the Animate button in the PASeq palette.

When you say the frame does not advance, do you mean the source movie isn't advancing or whatever you are doing in the canvas isn't frame advancing?

I ask because a really common problem people run into is that they build a PASeq for movie processing that doesn't actually process the source. An example of this would be an ip op that has it's IP Source set to current layer. If this was the case, then you would need to add an initial step to you PASeq that sets the canvas to the source. If you don't do this then the PASeq is never actually processing the source movie, it's just recursively processing the canvas.

Setting the IP Source to Source Image is another way to specify this. Keep in mind that if you are running a number of different Ip Ops, then typically only the first one needs to have the Ip Source set to Source Image.
            • The image in the canvas is not moving forward. I am trying to use the morphboost 1 in the PASeq preset. I am trying to get my head around PASeq source to movies, by using a bit from the Apple iPad video that Victor used. It is a great teaching tool. I have been at this now for 3 days. Still no movie.

ON top of that I have deleted my plist files for SA 4 and the app still keeps the last setup. It should go to default setup / startup like when you launch the app for the first time. I have turned on show hidden files and folders and cannot see any hidden prefs for SA 4. So why after trashing and deleting the plist files the app keeps the last window set up?

I will keep on fiddling and I know that I will get it working, it just has so much to offer it gets over whelming .
