sessions and layers

hey folks,

it seems that when I save my sessions, most with at least 6 unique image layers. When I quit, after saving the session, and then reopen the session, SA 4.0.2 does not remember my images or unique layer images and gives me a black canvas for all layers.

This alpha channel stuff really confuses me and I need to have this a a preference that can be turned off  instead of every time I start a new project.

However, the problem is my layers are not keeping the images that assigned specifically to each of them.

thanks for any help and if any one knows or could give me better insight on the whole alpha thing I would greatly appreciate it.

be well

Laurence

  • I just tried some tests, and any sessions i save restore all of the individual layers when i open the saved session file. So i don't think you comment about session files not remembering layer images is correct, that works fine in all of our tests.

It does appear that the current view mode stays with whatever it is currently set to before you open the session file, as opposed to reverting to what it was set to when you saved the session. So maybe that's tripping you up? Or maybe something associated with the alpha channels of the layer images.

If you want to email techsupport AT synthetik DOT com we can try to help you out.

Here's a tip on working with alpha channels in layers.

I am even scared to quit the program and shut down my machine because of this. I do not have any alpha layer with my images they usually are just jpegs and / or tiffs.

I have my current view mode set to all. My alpha enable for view is not checked, my alpha set to: nothing checked here. My alpha initialize is set to full off, the paint synth alpha enable is not checked.

What I would like is to have my session re open exactly as I left it. With all the images with their associated layers intact and with the correct status and composite settings.

This is what I am working on right now, and when I quit and reopen the session this is what I would like to have in my viewer window.
will do the tech support thing

      • Again, i'm not aware of any issues or problems associated with layers being saved in a session file.

You are using view all layer view mode for display. And right now when you start up studio artist, it starts up in view current layer view mode. And as we said above, the layer view mode apparently is not being restored when you open a session file to what it was when you saved the session file. It stays with whatever it was set to when you open the session file. We can fix that in the next update, but it's not really a big deal. It doesn't change the data in the layers. Just switch it to view all after you open the session file.

I'm happy to take a look at one of your session files if you email it to me. If it's larger than 4 meg you should use dropsend, com to email it. If you want to email techsupport AT synthetik DOT com we can try to help you out.
