  • Action : Process menus always start at the beginning and process the entire movie file (unless you manually stop it by pressing the space bar before the end).

However, there are at least 2 other ways to do what you want to do.

The first is to use Action : Animate processing instead of Action : Process.  How the loaded source movie works with Animate is very flexible, and depends on the Source Settings menu flags and how they are setup.

If you turn on 'Synch to Tineline, then the source movie will mirror the current frame time in the PASeq timeline while animate is running.

So you want it turned off, but you do want the 'Movie Loop Action Advance' flag turned on. Then the source movie will advance from it's current start position timing as the animation progresses.

Below i have the source movie setup to start at frame 50.

And i have the PASeq timeline setup to run a 100 frame animation.

I can just press the Animate button if i want to run the animation in the canvas without saving it.

If i want to run the animation out to a movie file, then i run the appropriate Action : Animate menu command.

    10432368688?profile=RESIZE_400x

So the animation will start at frame 50 of the source movie file, and proceed for 100 frames as i set it up in the screen shots above.

The second way to do it would be to setup a Source Context that keyframes the source movie frame time 50 at frame time 1 in the PASeq.

    10432370262?profile=RESIZE_930x

This will make a source context with the current source reference (movie file and frame #) as seen below.

    10432371065?profile=RESIZE_930x

You would want to drag and drop that Source Context action step up at the top of your PASeq.  This will overwrite what is currently in the source area when you run the PASeq. So again, you can't run Action : Process since the loaded source movie will go away when you run it, replaced by what the Source Context sends to the source area for each frame of the animation.

  • thanks for reply. I used the Action: Animate PAS to Movie and set the flags as suggested. however the resulting Mov has a very slow frame rate which I dont understand? I want it to be the same as the source Mov ie 25fps?

    • Animate writes out whatever you have setup for the default FPS (frames per second) in the movie tab of the main preferences dialog. So you would want to set that up as 25 fps if that is what you want.

Process let's you pass through the source movie timing if you want, or use the static FPS timing. Animate is always going to use the static FPS timing in movie preferences.

Studio Artist is in Italy!

I was crawling the streets of Matera, Italy today and may have discovered where SA is hiding!  (see attached photo). Not meaning to make light of this great, sad mystery. But I just couldn't resist as I try to make sense of what's happening. Losing my connection to SA, Synthetik and John has been a great sadness... and if real, ends a monumental era in my creative life. love,~Victor
