  • There aren't any bugs we are aware of associated with Studio Artist and osx 10.8.

The only thing to be aware of is that Studio Artist is not currently code signed on osx 10.8, so you need to set the new gatekeeper security preference to 'allow all applications' the first time you run a new downloaded Studio Artist application on your osx 10.8 machine.

    ...

I still use osx 10.6 on my main work machines. A big reason is that i need to be able to work with older PPC compiled applications that will not run on 10.7 or 10.8 due to their lack of Rosetta emulation support.

I'm also not particularly impressed by the 'make the mac more like an osx device' thinking in 10.7 and 10.8 to be honest.

    • I too keep one machine running an early OS (10.5) to run Rosetta for power PC apps, and earlier applications using Classic via COI/Sheepshaver.

But truly the time and eyestrain saved by using the new OS on a trackpad enabled MAC is considerable, especially if one is handling documents that use multiple pages or frames and keyframes. Not needing to look for a scroll bar, mouse to it and carefully move it, instead, organically and ergonomically making micro adjustments with the fingertips, immediately and directly is a game changer. Even bought a wacom tablet that uses finger gestures for the older machine, because it makes it more user useful.

Just downloaded Mountain Lion and am truly impressed with the upgrade. It is blisteringly fast. It is markedly more fast than Lion on the same machine. In some tasks 3x to 5x as fast. I do not know what they did under the hood, but it worked. It is easily as powerful an upgrade as 10.3 to 10.4; remember how fast Tiger seemed? Or the difference between OS 9 and 10.2? Way worth $20.

For the record, having installed Studio Artist under Lion before upgrading to Mountain Lion it continues to open without a hassle. The code signing thing is only an issue (apparently) if installing Studio Artist for the first time on a machine running 10.8.

      • The latest Studio Artist mac downloads are code signed now.

Just out of curiosity, what operations do you feel are running faster on 10.8 as opposed to 10.7.

        • System Startup is almost immediate. User Interface. Mail. Web browsing. Upgrades/Updates. iWorks (pages, numbers). It is as if the system is dedicating resources differently and more efficiently. Although my ISP has not changed, any app with a web-based resource or subprocess seems to have accelerated. It is as if the faucet has caught up with the pipe. (With the possible exception of SKYPE, and I do not know why.) At least with Apple software I suspect that they may have figured out a way to cache or prioritize resources differently and with less latency.

And this is not a super duper machine, it is a basic 13" 2011  mac book pro 2.3 GHz i5, with 8 GB ram. Now that I think of it, when I installed the RAM shortly after buying the machine, I noticed very little improvement from 4GB to 8GB. Perhaps tasks are now being allocated differently. I do not know if Apple comments their OS releases beyond new features, but if they do, the answers may be there, in the change log.

  • Running fine here in Mountain Lion on iMac (3.4 ghz Intel i7)
