  • This is the art style I am referring to.

  • You could create something like this using the region fill as brush pen mode. I used the smooth feather processing 1 option in the region fill as brush mode control panel for smooth edges for the hand drawn regions. I started with a black background. And i setup the paint fill apply composite to be a max composite. I've attached a preset that shows this off. Again, you want to use this on a black background. By drawing a region and then drawing a smaller region on top of it you can add the gradient to lighter colors effect you see in the image you posted.

    • Thanks for the preset. I may somehow be doing something wrong, as I am only getting light triangular shapes that don't seem to define the underlying image.

Could you post a preset for your image that I like?
      • The preset i posted was designed for manual drawing, not auto drawing. So you would have to lasso draw the shape of each blob. And then lasso in the highlight areas on top of the initial drawn blob to build the highlights.

The particular preset i used for the y5a painting you refer to uses 2 new v4 features.

Here's another preset that autodraws gradient lighted blobs.

      • OK. I find that if I use generate paths and paint paths I get a better result.
        • Here's a different approach that generates some analogous color shading at the edges of the stroke.

This uses a normal source brush. I setup path application repeat index to modulation the brush size smaller while also modulating the color. So the stroke redraws itself several times, building the lighting gradient each time by shrinking the brush size and modulating the blended color.
          • This is the style that I like.

I went to path application and found repeat stroke but I have no idea how put it or the modulation of size and color into effect.

Was this done by automatic painting, path painting or manual painting?
            • I used manual paint strokes for the image above.

The color modulation was done using the path gradient part of the paint Color Modulate control panel. But you need v4 to modulate with the repeat stroke index for the path gradient color and the brush size. I also forgot you also need v4 to use path application repeat with manually drawn interactive pen mode.

Here's a 3.5 version of this preset, which is missing the features i describe and looks somewhat flatter. If you use this and switch the fixed color 1 random start opt to Analogous mix and mess with the brush source gain and bias a little you can get the color change going on the stroke edges.

Is anybody making a copy of all the material in the Tutorials Forum

Since the Forum is going away in June, has anyone started to make a copy of all the stuff in the Tutorials forum?I've made copies of some of the tutorial material on the main site, but haven't looked at the Tutorial Forum yet.I'm going to continue copying as much as I can for my own personal use anyway, but if anyone else is doing it, or has already started doing it, please let me know.Maybe we can co-ordinate our efforts. ps can't ..... believe John, would let this happen without so much as a…
