Time Particles

I have been trying (mostly unsuccessfully) to work with time particles to create frame by frame moving/painted animations--targeting a particular area within a video clip (not usually working from still images). I have tried the various tutorials on the Synthetik site but there are many that are out-of-date, reference older version of the app, and are missing screen shots (broken links). Is there a new(er) place to refer to and learn more about time particles and creating isolated time-based paint effects? I saw several old posts discussing/referencing Takagi Masakatsu's video work (and I would rather NOT use After Effects)--that is one of the creative effects I am interested in exploring. Suggestions welcome, thanks!

  • If you want to point me at specific tutorials you had questions about i can try and answer them.

If a link in any of the archived daily effect blog posts at synthetik.com/blog is broken, the article it's linking to is probably there on that blog. Look at what it's referring to, remove the beginning synthetik.posterous.com part of the link, and then search for the rest.

Those posts you are referring to were originally posed on our daily effects blog. The daily effects blog was hosted on Posterous, and when Twitter bought them, they just shut the content down. We archived the posts at synthetik.com/blog before that happened, but a lot of links ended up broken because of all of that.

Some of the 'video work' you are referring to in previous discussions here was more about smooth paint flow as opposed to time particles. Can you be a little more specific about what effects you are interested in?

    • John, many thanks for the quick response, much appreciated. Let me review the pages, the folder of samples you shared (thanks!) as well as try some things I have been working on, and if more questions persist, I will likely be able to give you more meaningful info than my original general question. Thanks!

  • Here's a real simple introduction tip to time particles.

    • Here's a folder of some simple PASeq presets that show off a few simple examples of time particle paint presets.

    • Excellent, thanks!
