Hello,

I have upgraded to 5.5 and enjoying all the new features. I'm diving right in and trying to figure out if it's possible for me to import movies that have had the background of a subject rotoscoped out to transparency and rendered with RGB and alpha in After Effects. I've read a tip about working with Movie Layers in Studio Artist https://tips.synthetik.com/movie-layers-2/ - but not sure if this applies, and confused about whether this is the correct approach. I've also watched a video about how to mask out backgrounds of movies in Studio Artist, but also think I might prefer to use the roto tool in After Effects - since it seems more intuitive for me at present.

Thanks!

  • You should really work with folders of PNG images as opposed to movie files if you want to work with embedded alpha in V5.5.  The movie codecs are currently offer are not great with embedded alpha, especially on windows.

I'll run through a test scenario or 2 in V5.5.5 to make sure there aren't any issues associated with the V5.5 port.

You could always work with Contexts in the PASeq for loading in alpha matte movies from some other place if you like making them there.  You could load it in a hidden layer and then route it to the selection buffer.
