Vectorizer Question

What are the best settings to make in the vectorizer, to get the nearest possible approach to a given colored halftone image (a photo-representation without effects)? What maximum number of colors is the vectorizer in so doing able to recognize? Is there potentially any existing basic preset available? Ta, gov'ner.

Do you want it to be a halftone kind of image? Or are you looking to make it pseudo-continuous tone?

Let me ask Sean. He was working on putting together some presets for this kind of thing at one point. I'll ask him to post the presets he was working on.

I've done some experiments using multiple vectorizer passes that blend together to build up a pseudo-continuous tone image. So you build a paseq that runs multiple vectorized presets with everything past the first one using a reduced Mix setting. So they all blend together. You drop the Mix setting as they progress so they end up averaging together somewhat equally.

This vectorizer preset does a fair job of approximating the source image. Adjust the start algo in the Generation tab to fine tune to your source. You might also like the results if you change the Generator from watershed to Geodesic. If you would like larger steps that are a bit geometrically smoother (not hue smoother but outline curve smoother) you can try changing the generator to color palette.
