what parameter bends my “*Spiros”?

Hello Forum:

I have been fooling around with two similar presets, “Boxy Spiros” and “Cycle Spiros”. These are Particle Paint type presets which paint with a brush that looks like a series of boxes stacked upon one another and rotated.

I am also doing experiments with masks. And the bizarre thing is that if I “paint” around the outside edge of the mask, the brush undergoes some type of (affine?) geometrical transformation.

Indeed the result is mostly pleasing. I am trying find out what parameter controls this. Then maybe I can do this with one of my own brushes.

In the 2 attached images, one is a screen shot of the SA5 interface showing the masks. The other is just the saved canvas with the brush used inside the mask and the brush used outside the mask on the right.

TIA.

  • The Path Shape control panel has the settings for the spiro generation, and the Path Angle control panel has the settings for the angle used during path shape generation.

The effect you're seeing with the masking is really an artifact of how that particular vector paint is being masked. The particles and the vector paths associated with them are being terminated by the masking, so you don't get the complete box, just part of it until it ends up getting masked out and a new one starts. So that's why it appears to bend it. If the masking didn't terminate the particle drawing early, then you'd get the complete boxy look you see without the mask.
