I've taken to letting the gallery show run overnight and sorting through the results the next day.  I'm impressed by the variety of results I'm getting back, but I'm stymied by the sorting process.  My last session kicked out 1442 MSGs and culling through them to get to the good stuff is way more tedious than I thought it would be.

Here's how I approach it:

1. Start the gallery show and enable the history sequence to record.

2. When the show is over, I export the history sequence.

3. I turn on the PASeq record and then playback the history sequence in its entirety.

4. Once the history sequence is finished, turn off the PASeq record and start playing back each step.

5. On each step, I name it either "keep" or "kill"

6. Once I've gone through the entire list, I start deleting the "kill" steps from the top, as if I delete something from the middle or end of the PASeq, the cursor kicks back to the top of the order once I delete.

I'd love to be able to select and delete large swaths of steps at a time (or equally as useful, select and mark/tag/highlight several steps at time) but SA isn't currently capable of doing that at this time.  So my question to you all is: do you have a faster/more efficient way of sorting through the results of a gallery show dump?  Please share!

  • Not certain why you need step 3. If what you are trying to do is create a PASeq from the history while keeping the original, you could use the copy replace to PASeq command. Though to be honest since there is no real difference between a recorded history and a PASeq I am not sure why you need the duplicate at all. you could play the step directly from the history and decide immediately if you wanted to keep it or not. If you recorded the images at the same time as the history you might even be able to skip the play the sequence step and make your determination from the images saving only the actions that generated images you liked.

    • Liveart,

I absolutely was clueless of the copy replace to PASeq command until you mentioned it.  Thanks for mentioning it.  Not exactly sure what my madness was in putting together that workflow; I could have recorded straight to the PASeq.  Good stuff.

      • The one thing about recording to PASeq when working with gallery show is that you might be using PASeq presets as a part of your gallery show. That's one reason why it probably makes more sense to record into the History Sequence. The file format is identical, so you can export a history sequence and then open it as a PASeq preset.
  • Chris, there seemed to be 2 identical versions of this forum discussion, so i removed the other one to avoid confusion.

We added some naming features at some point to make it easier to match the movie stream image output to the history sequence steps. The goal was to make it easier for people to just look at the image results, and then be able to recreate the effect afterwards based on that visual sweep through the results.

In looking at those now they are associated with adding the preset name or source to the image stream. We could add additional options to make the history sequence more manageable. I'm open to people's suggestions.

One issue is that if you are using any of the Auto Mask options, or the Start Cycle options to build your imagery then the process involved in creating an image is going to be more than a single history step.
