video mapping using movie brushes in SA4

Been having fun doing photo mosaics with SA4 but I'm wondering if there is a way to set it up using videos instead?  I've figured out a way to build a brush using a slightly labor intensive method (creating a video wall using FCP/AE, rendering that movie out as an image sequence and then processing that folder into a movie brush using SA4) but the results aren't exactly what I was hoping for.

I ran into a post on how to do it in SA3.5 but haven't figured out how to create that in the current version.

  • You can do it using 2D mapping in the movie brush frame indexing. You map one axis of the 2D index with rgb mapping and the other with a time index.

There's an old post here on the forum somewhere that talks about how to do it for time particles, where the individual time particles have different movies playing inside of them.

I'll try to get something a little more detailed posted for you later.
    • I'll love to see any follow up that you came up with , John. Always that the art poster (art movie??) thing was an underappreciated aspect of 3.5 - there was once an example of different portions of movies playing on the canvas all forming the image of a face. That (and of course, Jean Detheux ;-)), got me hooked on SA in the first place.
